The UK Challenge
The UK is a post Christian land -
according to one of our country's leaders.
We have put together two media files which illustrate - better than using words - the current situation in Wales. The first considers what God would see if He was to look at the effects sin of in His creation. The video jumps from location-to-location around the world - in this case where Sardis Chapel has connections - and then finishes in Wales and asks the question, that Isaiah was asked by God in Isaiah Ch 6.
The second video illustrates the attitude of the nation of Wales. The title of this page is no surprise to foreign visitors to this land, but the spiritual blindness of the people of this nation has pushed them into denial. Adriana has blatently been told that Wales does not need missionaries. So often it is thought that missonaries are needed only in those tribes in remote parts of the world. The UK is financially rich which brings with it an arrogant superiority based on its advanced civilisation but with this the nation has become so spiritually poor.
In this media file we address this question by considering the time since 1904 when there was a revival (The Welsh 1904 Revival) in this land and the country became peppered with new chapels full of people glorifying God. Now chapels, with elderly congregations are fighting to keep their buildings open as all around them their neighboring buildings are been sold for uses other than worshiping the God of the Bible. The churches shown are now being converted into flats to live, community centres, commercial tourist venues or stand derilict. I am sure the Devil is smiling when he sees that some of these buildings are being used as public houses selling alcohol and promoting secular activies (e.g. the Pub shown in Aberystwyth).
The final church shown in the sequence of picutures was moved to the National Museum in Wales (St Fagans). There is a trend that Christianity is being pushed into the past and into the museum where furture generation will be bewildered as to what happened in these places, only to be told by history books. At St Fagans there is a row of cottages showing how Welsh living standards have change over the 1900s. The first cottage represents the time around the Welsh Revival in 1904 and at the centre of the room was a Bible and on the wall hung Bible verses. The sucessive cottages depict later periods up until the electronic era of television and radio where there is no hint of God in the home. As you go from cottage to cottage there is progressive transition from a Godly home centred on the Bible to a home dominated by technology and heavily influenced by the media. We are now at a stage where churches are being closed, dismantled and alternate uses found for them. This is the spiritual state of the UK.
Our hope is in Jesus Christ and the fact that His church is still in this nation and there is a group of faithful Christians who are Bible committed and pray for a new revival to this nation where we will see people being transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
